
Guillermo barrón
Biography
Percussionist, educator, composer, and session musician originally from San Luis Potosí, Mexico. He has performed in ensembles spanning a wide range of styles and musical genres, including classical music, pop, flamenco, Mexican music, salsa, and Latin jazz, among others. He has played with international artists such as José Feliciano, The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra, Luisito Quintero and his group The 3rd Element, Mike Eckroth, Charlie Sepúlveda, Ralph Irizarry, Julio Alvarado, Oscar Stagnaro, Roby Lakatos, Antonio Lizana, Héctor Martignon, John Benitez, Axel Tosca Laugart, Xiomara Laugart, Gabriel Hernández, Osmany Paredes, Brian Lynch, and salsa singers Roberto Blades, Rafu Warner, Pepito Gómez, Paquito Guzmán, and Miguel Ángel Barcasnegras “Meñique”, among many others.
Barrón began studying Latin percussion privately in his hometown with Ramón Nieto and music theory with Jorge Martínez Zapata. He later moved to the Faculty of Music at the Universidad Veracruzana in Xalapa, where he studied classical percussion and took private lessons in Afro-Cuban percussion with Miguel Cruz. He continued his studies at the Puerto Rico Conservatory of Music in the Jazz and Caribbean Music program, graduating Summa Cum Laude, having studied with professors such as Paoli Mejías, Andrew Lázaro, Fidel Morales, Javier Rodríguez Curet, and Luis Marín, among others.
In addition, he holds a Master’s degree in Music Industry Business Management, awarded by the Universidad Internacional de La Rioja.
He currently works as a session musician for various international recording productions.
